A little over 10 years ago, when the #mycalvins campaign was in full swing, there was nothing cooler than walking around, the elasticated waistband of your Calvin Klein underwear peeking out of your pants. When Veronica Leoni revived the once-dead label earlier this year, she too sought to resuscitate the brand’s iconic waistband, sending it down the spring 2026 runway in a variety of interpretations: a woven dress, visor sunglasses, and a pair of sheer long johns. Who, though, many wondered, was the customer?
Kristen Stewart, apparently, is the woman for the job. Last night at the IndieWire Honors, The Chronology of Water director hit the carpet in the sheer white leggings worn over a pair of white briefs, creating a double CK waistband. Styled by Tara Swennen, she opted not to wear it with the drapey white runway top, instead choosing a similarly see-through white tank top, which she layered underneath an oversized black blazer. She finished off her look with a pair of black pointy-toe pumps, round sepia-tinted glasses, and two diamond tennis necklaces on her collarbone.
Stewart is no stranger to the underwear-as-outerwear trend. Last year, when promoting her film Love Lies Bleeding, she attended the premiere in an ultra-high-cut, hipbone-baring bodysuit from Bettter; later on in the press cycle, she hit the streets of New York City in a pair of cream cable-knit underwear with brown trim.
While she’s an expert at the pantless trend, this most recent Calvin Klein look proves that there is still plenty to explore. After all, necessity is the mother of invention, and—as Kristen Stewart knows—everyone needs underwear.
