Svitlana Bevza is of the mindset that, as humans, we don’t actually need much in our wardrobes. Which is why she designs her pieces, season after season, with a focus on the highest craftsmanship. She wants to create investment pieces worthy of her customers. “I consider Bevza garments proper investments,” the Ukrainian designer said. “You can buy a dress and forget about it in your wardrobe and have it for years to come. So I pay a lot of attention to fabric choice and the quality of production, which has to be the finest.”
You can see that mentality and follow-through in her resort lookbook. Most of her collections are rendered in her signature neutrals, but here, with the additions of a gentle butter yellow and minty green. Aside from the colors, her silhouettes lean toward classic and are inspired by a minimalist, 90s mentality in mind. A black bamboo jersey dress comes form-fitted with a subtle chain detailing at the straps that follows through to the back— no need for additional jewelry. Additionally, the straps feature her usual wheat motif, a nod to one of her homeland’s biggest exports. It was a thoughtful touch.
Whilst doing a closet cleanout, Bevza came across a vintage Corneliani tailcoat that belonged to her husband. He wanted to get rid of it, an act that the designer vehemently opposed. “He wanted to throw away the suit, but I loved the suit,” she said. Instead, she used it as inspiration. “So for the Bevza version we narrowed the silhouette down, and puffed out the sleeves, but kept the lengths and all the other details that I loved about it.” She added a belt that easily cinches and uncinches at the wearer’s wish, and offers it in two different shades. The result is Bevza’s perfect evening jacket. You know, the kind of thing she just knows will be a staple in her own wardrobe for the years to come.
