Shortlisted for last year’s Global Open Call Women by Women, Shannon Cavarocchi is a photographer from Oahu, Hawaii, now based in Australia. Her work explores human emotions and the connection with nature, reflecting on her personal experiences. For Cavarocchi, photography is a way to understand her story and interpret reality, as well as to create community with others. Her project Song of the Siren explores how healing is a process that occurs through collective interaction, rather than a solitary journey.

Working with medium-format film, the artist spent extended time with her subjects, engaging with them and building genuine relationships—an essential element in the creation of her intimate and delicate portraits. In Cavarocchi’s practice, womanhood is seen as a manifestation of nature, with landscapes playing a role in healing trauma and reflecting cyclical rhythms of regeneration.
