“She is mother to all,” said an elated Laura Love whilst describing her mom—Lisa Love; Vogue’s longtime West Coast-based force—over dinner on Monday night. The mother-and-daughter duo were on hand to host an evening in honor of the British clothing brand ME+EM, which fittingly took place at SoHo’s new pub and eatery, Dean’s.
Among those who came out to toast to the London label’s Spring edit were Chloe Malle, Derek Blasberg, Devyn Garcia, and Pamela Hansen. Guests trickled through the charming public house, the latest venture from the team behind King and Jupiter, passing wooden banquets and displays of vintage ads lining the walls, halting only when they met their assigned seats and were greeted with fresh oysters and Guinness bread with Marmite.
Over a candlelight feast of martinis and fish and chips doused in malt vinegar, ME+EM founder Clare Hornby addressed the room to warmly thank both Lisa and Laura for bringing together an “incredibly stylish” group. Style between generations—and from East coast to West coast—was the through-line of the evening, with Hornby’s daughters Grace and Maddy even making their way from across the pond to join.
For the celebration, Lisa stepped out in a sleek black leather jacket, paired with her signature square-framed sunglasses. When asked about ME+EM’s upcoming Mother’s Day social media photoshoot featuring the pair, Lisa laughed and gave full credit to Laura. “She corrals me into doing these things and I tell her, ‘I’m not a model—I am your mother.’ Then she told me this was a mother and daughter thing.” As for Laura, she hadn’t always envisioned fashion as her chosen career path. But after she endured a consequential injury, the former ballerina naturally found herself more curious about her mom’s world. “I think what I got from her was my individuality. She’s steadfast in how she dresses, and she has her signature style,” Laura praised.
