Reporting live from Vogue’s Paris offices ahead of the Chanel and Louis Vuitton shows, The Run-Through’s hosts (and special guest Claire Thomson-Jonville, head of editorial content at Vogue France) were in agreement: by and large, fashion’s new creative directors have stopped auditioning for their roles and started owning them. Nowhere was that clearer than at Givenchy, where Sarah Burton showed a fringe-festooned gown on Mona Tougaard that left the crowd stunned. Michael Rider’s third outing for Celine, at the Institut de France, was also a highlight: “expensive-looking, but aspirationally relatable,” as Sarah Mower put it.
Elsewhere, Pieter Mulier’s intimate farewell to Alaïa made for a moving scene; his decision to seat the full atelier team, and commemorate them in a book, felt especially thoughtful. “These designers are showing us they’re doing it with intention, with empathy, and kindness,” Chioma observed.
As Paris Fashion Week came to a close, however, all eyes were once again on Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel, where British Vogue’s March cover star (and friend of the pod!) Bhavitha Mandava is now officially a house ambassador. As Chloe said in her sign-off: “Happy Chanel Day to all who celebrate!”
