New Moon, New You: Here’s What the First Major Celestial Event of 2026 Means for Each Sign

A new dawn is upon us. The planets are moving in very exciting ways this year which will, astrologically speaking, cause quite a few shake-ups both personally and politically. The first sign of this will be the new moon in Capricorn on January 19—the first major celestial event of the year.

Capricorn is an earth sign that represents the power that runs through society—it symbolizes dominance, strong leadership, and stability. It also represents the hierarchical and vertical relationships in society, as well as the political and economic structures that have been developed over time. Simultaneously, a new moon signifies the beginning of things. It is the starting point, so to speak. So we can expect a big shake up of the old rules.

This new moon in Capricorn will occur at 4:52a.m. on January 19. Immediately after that, the moon will begin its move into Aquarius. It will approach Pluto, which is waiting at the entrance to Aquarius. Pluto is said to be the planet of “destruction and rebirth,” giving us the power to destroy the existing world from the ground up, creating a new one from scratch. Its stay in Aquarius strengthens this power of renewal even more. This is because Aquarius is the sign of novelty, and it tends to signify the creation of something groundbreaking, throwing out existing boundaries, and transcending conventional systems.

But what makes this year an especially transformative one is that it will be happen in conjunction with the high-impact planetary transits of Saturn and Uranus. On February 14, just in time for Valentine’s Day, the transformative Saturn will enter Aries. Then, on April 26, Uranus, the planet of change, moves into Gemini. To put that in more digestible terms, Saturn will present plenty of new challenges over the next two and a half years, while Uranus will spend about seven years creating new systems and worlds.

I know what you’re thinking: What does all of this mean for me? Well, during such a bold period of change, there will be two types of people: Those who can flexibly keep up with the times and those who can’t or won’t. Those who cling to the old ways of doing things will only be left behind, potentially leading to a decline in luck and fortune. (I’m just the messenger!)

So, what should we change in our daily lives in 2026, for starters? On a personal level, the new moon in January presents varying potential paths for each zodiac sign. Have a look at what approach might work for you, below.

New Moon in Capricorn

Aries

Change the way you work, Aries. In 2026, find a job that you feel is your true calling. Scroll through job search websites or peruse LinkedIn. Or, if you’d like to stay put, research the benefits and programs available to employees at your current workplace. A positive attitude toward work will make a big difference in your overall fortune this year.

Taurus

Expose yourself to different cultures this year, Taurus. Take a keen interest in world affairs. Traveling abroad is a fantastic idea, too, as is accessing foreign news and culture. Having friends from all over the world is a must. Make a conscious approach to a world you have never seen before.

Gemini

Make time in your life to join hands and create daily ritual. For example, when you eat a meal, take a moment to say thanks. Maybe you can get into meditation, yoga, or pilates. Embrace the intentional and ritualistic this year, Gemini.

Cancer

Consciously listen to what others have to say, both at work and in your personal life—it will serve you well this year, Cancer. Try not to talk too much about yourself, instead remaining curious and open as to what the other person is feeling. Listening to other’s emotions, thoughts, and values, and incorporating them into your own life, will lead towards a personal evolution.

Leo

This year, is all about revitalizing your stagnant rhythms and becoming more intentional, Leo. If you are a night person, why not switch it up and become a morning person? Establish new routines and rules for your body and health. Take a walk every before work, stretch before bed, don’t skip breakfast, and keep your sleep patterns regular.

Virgo

Spend more time on hobbies this year, Virgo. If you don’t have any hobbies that immediately spring to mind, try taking up at least one in the coming weeks. Something you find interesting is likely to appear around the time of the new moon on the January 19, so make full use of it. You’ll see the benefits later.

Libra

This year is all about revitalising your physical space, Libra. Clean your kitchen, switch up the interior design, redecorate your bedroom, buy new secondhand furniture, etc. This year, it’ll be important that you make your home or room a comfortable and cozy space. Of course you do this anyway, Libra, but pay extra attention to such things this year.

Scorpio

This year is all about learning and gathering new knowledge, Scorpio. In particular, if you’re not tech-y already, it’s worth getting a handle on new devices, gadgets, and new ways of doing things. If you can incorporate such things into your life and use it to your advantage, it could just be the catalyst that will change your life.

Sagittarius

Increase your financial literacy this year, Sagittarius. Learn investment know-how and get to grips with money. You can attend money courses, read up on finances and actually learn what it means to invest. Also, check to see if there are any grants or subsidies that apply to you this year. If you become sensitive or even just aware of financial matters, this could end up enriching your life in the long run.

Capricorn

Take an actual interest in politics this year, Capricorn. Make an effort to learn about global events, and form an opinion about what’s happening in the world. Maybe even try to get involved in activism—in big or small ways. It might just end up being an opportunity to change your life—and the lives of those around you—for the better.

Aquarius

This year is all about throwing out the old and ushering in the new, Aquarius. To start, make a long list all of the things you dislike, all the events you don’t want to attend, and all the things you never want to do. When you write down your big list of “nos,” you will be able to more clearly see what is in fact a very big “yes” for 2026. Trust me, it works.

Pisces

Your desires cannot be achieved alone at the moment, Pisces. By doing things together with others, your wishes will take shape and lead to success. Recruit your friends and others around you, and think specifically about who you might work best with. It can be someone who is already around you, or you can manifest the sort of person you’d like to meet in the future. Then, watch when that person emerges.
