My skiing abilities can best be encapsulated by three words: A for effort. Growing up in California beside the Pacific Ocean and 500+ miles away from a decent resort, it wasn’t until my thirties came around that I even stepped foot in a pair of ski boots. When my inaugural ski run arrived, despite hesitations of picking up a new sport with a mildly high injury rate, I was at least dressed the part. In a matching ski jacket and pants, I—somewhat miraculously—tackled the slopes with complete confidence; graduating from the bunny hill, to green, and then to blue in a matter of hours.
