On Tuesday evening, Swarovski’s longstanding relationship with film was crystal clear. To celebrate the Masters of Light Hollywood exhibition, now on view at Amoeba Records, a star-studded opening party was hosted by global creative director, Giovanna Engelbert.
The bash drew a glittering crowd—Kylie Jenner, Viola Davis, Baz Luhrmann, Lisa Rinna and Amelia Gray, Emily Ratajkowski, Venus Williams, Laura Harrier, and Jeff Goldblum among them—to toast to the 130th anniversary and a century-plus of collaborations.
Curated by fashion critic Alexander Fury, the nine-room exhibition—which has already enthralled audiences in Vienna, Milan, Shanghai, and Seoul—has been reimagined with a la-la-land twist to spotlight Swarovski’s most notable moments on screen and in the pop culture canon.
Armed with flutes of Champagne, guests were guided through a series of immersive spaces. Among the treasures on display are Dorothy’s ruby red slippers from The Wizard of Oz; the crystal-encrusted gown Marilyn Monroe wore to sing happy birthday to President Kennedy; the Moschino chandelier dress worn by Katy Perry to the 2019 Met Gala; and a Moulin Rouge! costume by Catherine Martin, most recently worn by Kendall Jenner at Vogue World 2025: Hollywood.
As the crowd moved through the exhibit, Dita Von Teese stopped to admire a gown worn by Greta Garbo in the 1933 film Queen Christina. Costume designers Arianne Phillips and Sandy Powell traded notes in front of Harry Styles’ sequin jumpsuit, while Cher stopped to pose in front a Bob Mackie number that was, naturally, originally designed for her.
“For me, it’s always been about celebrating this magical link between Swarovski and the world of performance—fashion, film, stage, and screen,” Engelbert told Vogue, as she surveyed the room. “To bring this story home to Hollywood feels like a dream realized.”
The exhibition’s crowning jewel is perhaps the Mathemagical room, which features the one-of-kind couture creations that Engelbert oversaw for Swarovski’s two Met Gala outings—a testament to how, since becoming the brand’s first global creative director in 2020, she has put her own fashion-forward stamp on the historic company.
After a final marvel at Swarovski’s largest-ever crystal stone—which weighs approximately 75 kilos—the crowd continued the celebration down the street at The Living Room private members club. As trays of cocktails and sliders made the rounds, Arman Naféei (aka director of ambiance at the Chateau Marmont) took to the DJ booth. Guests dutifully lined up for their turn at the Swarovski photo booth—where they were thrilled to find an effect which superimposed sparking tiaras onto their heads, for their own main character moment.
