Back when Leonardo DiCaprio was first breaking into the business of film, all you had to do was show up at premiere parties and look handsome. (Don’t forget, the man is a ripe and gorgeous 50, despite the youth of his various and sundry girlfriends and his self-stated emotional age being 32.) But in our modern new era, one it’s not enough to just star in and/or direct a movie; you also have to bring your enthusiasm about the project online, as DiCaprio and director Paul Thomas Anderson have been doing lately to promote their dark-comedy thriller One Battle After Another:
While it’s very fun to see guys like DiCaprio and Anderson TikTok-ing it up, they’re by no means the only ones turning the release of One Battle After Another into the press-tour equivalent of must-see TV. Teyana Taylor, whose performance is already being lauded as a standout in a talent-packed project (Anderson memorably described her as “a valuable collaborator and a good hang” in a recent GQ profile of the actress and singer) served arguably the hardest ab reveal in recorded history alongside boyfriend Aaron Pierre at the film’s London premiere.
Meanwhile, Taylor and DiCaprio’s costar Sean Penn has contributed in the essential roles of 1) looking inexplicably electrocuted at the same premiere and 2) wildly oversharing about how he came to join the film, telling Entertainment Weekly: “I came out of a shower late one night, and I was just walking to get dressed, and I had the script sitting there, and I thought, Okay, I’ll read just one page, and I started to read, and I don’t know, half a page, a page in, I’m sitting there dripping naked on the floor reading a script until I drip-dried and finished it.” Well…okay!
Rounding out this wonderfully motley, largely boomer-ish crew is their de-facto social media manager, 25-year-old newcomer Chase Infiniti, who plays DiCaprio’s daughter Willa in One Battle After Another. Not only is Infiniti slaying the style game, but she’s also starring in expertly edited TikToks sharing her perspective on the press tour to end all press tours.
