Tonight, Kate Middleton—Catherine, Princess of Wales—sparkled in a blue cape gown by Jenny Packham for a state banquet at Windsor Castle held in honor of German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender.
Her dress wasn’t the only thing that shone—she accessorized with the Oriental Circlet tiara, which was made in 1853 for Queen Victoria, and features diamonds and rubies in a design of sparkling lotus flowers and Mughal arches. It marked Kate’s first time wearing this tiara, which is believed to be her biggest yet.

This morning, the Prince and Princess of Wales welcomed the German president and his wife at London’s Heathrow Airport, beginning a three-day state visit which is the first German state visit to the UK in 27 years.
For the greeting, Kate wore a blue Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton coat paired with a navy dress by Burberry, suede boots, and a hat by Juliette Botterill. To finish the look, she wore double-drop sapphire and diamond earrings—which were a wedding gift to Princess Diana from Crown Prince Fahd of Saudi Arabia—and the Prince of Wales feather brooch. The brooch—which features three ostrich feathers and a centered coronet—was previously worn by both Diana and Queen Camilla.
