“The fresh of the runway Schiaparelli was structural and otherworldly, and we wanted to [create a] raw, stripped version of the true mythological references but make it current,” says Moreno. He leaned into what he calls a “halo of frizz” and “air dried undoneness.” “[That] contrast really helps to tell the story—how much range a goddess could actually have to depict beauty and style,” he adds.
Moreno used a combination of clip-in and tape in hair extensions from Bellami to add the length and thickness, following the perimeter of her crown and scalp to create a naturally seamless look, with three different shades to emulate her natural color. Oribe’s Gold Lust Dry Heat Protection Spray was used throughout. “I braided the hair and pulled it apart east to west, then used a low heat flat iron to set in the shape along the length of the braid, letting the texture go wild before placing it into a crown shape,” Moreno explains. “There were also different size braids and some rope twists added for visual interest.”
Extra-long lengths can feel like so much fun, and extensions make it pretty easy. Just ask Hailey Bieber, who swapped her lob for a chest-length layers at Bieberchella. It won’t be long, though, until Zendaya returns to her bixie. The close cropped style has become pretty popular this year, thanks to Zendaya, Rama Duwaji, and Gracie Abrams—it’s a look only edged out by the celebrity favorite “clavi-cut.”
Moreno puts the bixie’s rise down to its accessibility, ease, and lightness in the summer months. “I think it’s popular right now because it’s relatable and a lot of women can see themselves in that shape,” he says of Zendaya’s short hairdo. “It’s such a great grow-out from a pixie. And even when a cut needs to happen for extreme breakage, it’s a sweet spot that’s not too long or too short.”
Zendaya and Law Roach have been longtime architects of modern method dressing—but for The Odyssey, Z is leaning into Mount Olympus-worthy method glamming. Just as the Greek Gods were capricious, don’t expect to predict what could ever be next from Zendaya and her team.
