A Closer Look at Ariana Grande’s Custom Eternal Sunshine Tour Looks

Last night at the Oakland Arena in California, Ariana Grande kicked off her Eternal Sunshine tour—the buzzy set of summer gigs that were impossible to get tickets for.

Supporting her 2024 pop album of the same name, this marks Grande’s first time hitting the road since 2019’s Sweetener tour. For the past two years, Grande has been famously focusing on her Hollywood movie star era, with her Oscar-nominated turn as Glinda in Jon M. Chu’s Wicked films. In summer 2027, she will star opposite Jonathan Bailey once again and make her London stage debut in Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George. But yesterday evening saw Grande return to her full-on pop star form: Cue the fabulous mini dresses, platform boots, and yes, the signature high ponytail.

Grande’s first show, which was divided into five acts, unveiled her new custom tour fashions. The star worked with her go-to stylist Law Roach to cultivate six striking looks for the stage. (Roach also styled her Sweetener tour.) This show includes custom designs by Wiederhoeft, Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Ludovic de Saint Sernin, and two looks courtesy of Givenchy by Sarah Burton. “The Wicked press tours really brought us back together,” Roach tells Vogue. “I like to joke that she waited to go on tour until we reunited.”

For this latest tour, Grande and Roach wanted to treat the wardrobe in a more cinematic and high-fashion way. “The last tour was a pop concert, but this one feels more like a movie,” says Roach. “The way that she chose the set list, it felt more like scores for a movie, and we wanted the clothes to reflect that.”

The singer opened the show with her hit “yes, and?” wearing a custom black Ludovic de Saint Sernin lace mini dress, complete with a very “the boy is mine”-style Catwoman mask, and Christian Louboutin ballet-style boots. “Ariana fell in love with ballet as a little girl, so that informed the wardrobe a lot,” says Roach. “Act one is this romantic brawl between her and the dancers, and this look says, ‘I’m here and ready for anything.’”
