When in Rome, do as Dakota Johnson does.
That seems to be a lesson Jessie Buckley is taking to heart. Over the weekend, the two actors—next set to star together in Alice Rohrwacher’s Three Incestuous Sisters—linked up in Rome, where each opted for disparate takes on the same warm-weather outfit formula.
Johnson stuck to her more minimal style in a pale blue satin midi dress, black ballet flats, and a navy blue sweater slung over her shoulders. She added some visual intrigue with her accessories, including a deep red purse, sculptural silver pendant, and a pair of round, wire-rimmed sunglasses.
Buckley, on the other hand, went for a full-on maximalist fashion fantasia. She embraced patterns galore in an Erdem midi skirt with polka dots of various sizes, paired with a checked blouse. (Her daughter, Isla, strapped to her chest, also got the memo in a pair of floral pants and a sweet black patterned headscarf.) Like Johnson, Buckley also chose flats over a walking sneaker, choosing a pair of red Mary Janes. She finished off her look with a pale pink headscarf and squared-off sunglasses.
Between Dakota Johnson’s more streamlined styling and Jessie Buckley’s power-clashing, the two actors remind us that there are endless ways to interpret a breezy skirt (or dress) and flats.
