The Devil Wears Prada 2 is taking over New York—well, at least its splashy premiere is.
Tonight, the film’s main cast members Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci all hit the Manhattan red carpet for a special screening of the highly-anticipated sequel. And, as expected, they all brought out their most glamorous looks for the buzzy occasion. (It is a high-fashion movie, after all.)
Streep and stylist Micaela Erlanger paid homage to her chic editrix character Miranda Priestly by choosing a red caped creation, by Givenchy by Sarah Burton, that would most certainly be Runway-approved in the film. Right down to the avant-garde opera gloves and David Yurman jewels. “I knew going into this moment that I wanted it to be her boldest look of the press tour yet, and I definitely feel like we achieved that here,” says Erlanger. “To me, this strikes the perfect balance of a clean line with unexpected material choices that keep it feeling tough, powerful and contemporary.”

Together, Streep and Erlanger have been delivering nonstop statement fashions during the press tour this past month. A few weeks back in Mexico City, Streep kicked things off with a bright red Dolce & Gabbana power suit, and the bold looks have only continued since. (For a recent late-night stop on the The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, she even sported a custom blue J.Crew sweater in—what else?—cerulean.)
Tonight’s statement look, however, proved to be one of Streep’s best. “Everything about this look exudes power and confidence,” says Erlanger. “Every inch of her is covered, but not in a way that feels modest or apologetic. It’s both power and autonomy. It reads as fashion armor while still demanding to be looked at all at once.”
And the tour isn’t over just yet. With the big London premiere on Wednesday ending things with a bang, we can soon say “that’s all” to Streep’s epic wardrobe. . . but we simply don’t want it to end!
