A.L.C. is more about wardrobing than storytelling, and fall is perhaps the crux of Andrea Lieberman’s thesis. “For me, it’s a nuanced shift, adding things into the wardrobe that we feel are missing,” the designer said of the fall season. “Nothing monumental happens.”
As her own best customer, Lieberman filled the silk shirting-shaped hole in her closet with a variety of blouses, from a traditional rich brown button-up to a billowing mock-neck in navy and ecru. Though she isn’t much a fan of dresses, Lieberman also designed a deep eggplant silk shirtdress with a low-slung waist tie. The palette, mostly traditional autumnal colors, came with an occasional surprise, like a minty slip dress or a raspberry jersey skirt set. “Color, for us, is always a beautiful expression of the brand,” she said. “It’s really rich and really sophisticated neutrals, but always with an unexpected mint or red.”
While Lieberman said this wasn’t a season full of shakeups, fall 2026 was an opportunity to put fabrics at the forefront, using smart textiles to elevate loungewear pieces. See, for instance, the pull-on leather joggers in a “carrot” silhouette or a thick navy viscose quarter-zip—her “grown-up sweatshirt”—which holds its shape for a more structured, put-together look. “I want it to be in a fabrication that makes me look and feel a little bit more elevated and ready,” she said.
Though Lieberman has called Southern California home for the last couple of decades, she’s a New York native who has held fast to her love of autumn apparel. This season married a no-nonsense New York attitude with slouchy, SoCal ease. There was something there for everyone, from coast to coast.
