Tokyo editor and creative Kazumi Asamura Hayashi is the new head of editorial content of Vogue Japan, effective January 29. Her appointment follows that of Soichiro Fujiwara as managing director of Condé Nast Japan, who will join the company in March 2026, marking a new phase for the organization’s leadership in the market.
“Kazumi is a bold, intuitive editor, with an eye shaped by her previous experiences in culture and the arts. She truly understands how fashion intersects with identity, creativity, and the world at large. I believe she is the right leader to guide Vogue Japan into its next chapter, bringing a strong editorial voice alongside a deep understanding of the moment,” said Anna Wintour, chief content officer, Condé Nast, and global editorial director, Vogue.
Hayashi was previously the editorial director of i-D Japan, which she launched in 2016, shaping the title across print, digital and social platforms. In 2020, she expanded this vision regionally with the launch of i-D Asia, a digital platform spotlighting contemporary Asian culture.
Earlier in her career, she was editor-in-chief of Libertin Dune, Japan’s leading independent fashion culture magazine, and co-founded The Last Gallery, a platform dedicated to contemporary art.
In her new role, Hayashi will report to Leslie Sun, Vogue APAC editorial director and head of editorial content, Vogue Taiwan. “Kazumi has a sharp instinct for the zeitgeist and a rare ability to translate creative ideas into clear editorial direction. She brings focus, momentum and a collaborative spirit, and I’m excited to work closely with her as we continue to strengthen Vogue Japan within the region,” Sun said.
