Inside Davido and Chioma Adeleke’s “Lagos-to-Miami” Wedding in Wynwood

David Adedeji Adeleke first met Chioma Rowland Adeleke outside Babcock University’s cafeteria in 2013. David wasn’t the typical undergraduate—years earlier, he had dropped out of college to pursue his music career under the stage name of Davido. It was going well (like, really well), but David had made a promise to his father that he’d earn a bachelor’s degree. So he enrolled at Babcock, taking classes Monday through Wednesday and doing shows on the weekend.

It was on one of these academic weekdays that he spied Chioma and her friends. Immediately struck by her, he asked his friend, Lati, to introduce them. “At the time, she was dating someone else, but the guy messed up and I swooped in like a champ,” he says, laughing.

Davido, now a world-famous Afrobeats artist whose album “Timeless” was nominated for a 2023 Grammy Award, proposed to Chioma in 2019. Five years later, they held a wedding in Lagos, Nigeria—except once wasn’t enough. This past August, they held a blowout second wedding ceremony (and technically their first “white wedding”) in Miami that all their family and friends could attend. Davido’s sister, Sharon Ademefun, acted as their creative director.

After a Havana night-themed welcome party at Queen Miami, Chioma met Davido under a white floral arch at Mana Wynwood in Miami as 1,500 guests looked on. She wore an ornate wedding dress by Alonuko, a London-based bridal brand founded by a British-Nigerian designer. “I worked with my stylist, Tosin Agboola from The Wardrobe Manager, to coordinate all my looks. We wanted everything to feel cohesive, elevated, and true to both the Miami setting and the overall vision of the wedding. It was also important to include Nigerian designers alongside international names,” she says. The musician, meanwhile, wore a brown Tom Ford suit and diamonds from his personal collection, as styled by Yasmeen Ntwari. “I felt at peace,” Davido says of the ceremony. “I got to marry the love of my life and I get to wake up next to her forever.” Both bride and groom also wore poignant mementos of their late son, Ifeanyi.

Afterwards, it was time to celebrate at Mana Wynwood’s Sound Stadium. Chioma changed into a blue-and-red sequin Jennifer Rowland dress, and Davido a Deji & Kola suit (which he accented with jewels by Benny the Jeweler). They had a sit-down dinner, but not for long: entertainment group Black and Wine performed a Hora Loca—a Latin American tradition where high-energy entertainers come out in masks, costumes, and props to get a party started. As the night grew even later, and Afrobeats musicians D’Banj and Adekunle Gold took the stage, Chioma changed into a third custom Jennifer Rowland look in aquamarine. “We shut Miami down,” says Davido. “We brought Lagos to Miami, and it was exactly what I had in mind.” Chioma, meanwhile, says one word sums up the evening: “Vibes.”
