Bella Hadid has always been her best in Cannes: from cut-out Tom Ford-era Gucci to Sophia Loren-coded looks, an ’80s Chanel ballgown and gilded Schiaparelli lungs, or licking ice-cream on the Plage du Midi in a Hushidar Mortezaie keffiyeh fabric patchwork dress. The Croisette and the Cannes Film Festival red carpet belong to Ms. Bella Hadid.
This year, the model has brought along a fun and free-spirited feeling wardrobe of archival pieces for bopping about the French Riviera. Spotted leaving the famed Cap-Eden-Roc hotel in Antibes before taking a private boat to the festival, Hadid danced happily with a friend on the jetty, wearing a pink gingham crop top and low-waisted co-ord set from Chantal Thomass spring 1988. She paired the sweet two-piece with Chopard Happy Hearts bracelets, a Shay Pave diamond pinky ring, retro white oval sunglasses, and pale pink pointy pumps. Her hair was up in a messy up-do parted to the side, smile wide.
Departing the boat for lunch with her mother, Yolanda Hadid, Bella opted for a dusty rose Alaïa spring 2003 halter dress with a keyhole neckline and close-fit bodice that fell into a drop waist, with a wispy butterfly wing-like hemline. The dress was sourced by her stylist Mimi Cuttrell from Paris-based vintage designer clothing seller Emerieu, who has also outfitted the likes of Sabrina Carpenter in their romantic, decades-spanning archive of Dior-era Galliano, Chloé, Alaïa, and more.
“We regularly source vintage Alaïa pieces because few designers understood the female form the way Azzedine Alaïa did,” says Emerieu founder Mathilde Gaudier. (Gaudier shares that she’s bought the same dress in multiple colorways and lengths, including a sumptuous emerald green.) “When this spring 2003 dress came to us, we had a feeling Bella would be its perfect match and it seems Bella’s styling team felt exactly the same way.”
Hadid styled the dress with a summery vintage Prada cream crochet tote bag—sourced from Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber accessories fave, The Vintage Marché—tortoiseshell sunglasses, and snakeskin Manolo Blahnik pumps from vintage shoe aficionados Shop Élléments. On first arrival at Nice Airport earlier this weekend, Hadid opted for a cooler and more casual travel ’fit by way of Prada Sport, wearing an athletic silver-blue spring 1999 zip-up sleeveless top and capri set with a vintage Prada bag and Puma speedcat sneakers.
